Basel delegation visit and "Basel-Shanghai Night" event

On 14th, May, the Basel delegation, which was led by Dr. Carlo Conti, State Councillor of the Canton Basel-Stadt visited East China Normal University for their cooperation about the new Confucius Institute at University of Basel. Prof. Dr. Antonio Loprieno, President of the University of Basel, Prof. Dr. Madeleine Herren-Oesch, Director of the Institute for European Global Studies, University of Basel, Mr. Matthias Geering, Head Communications & Marketing, University of Basel and Ms. Qi Zhu Ammann, Managing Director Confucius Institute Basel also participated in the discussion.

In the evening, the event “Basel – Shanghai Night” was held in Swatch Art Peace Hotel, which was organized by SwissCham and swissnex China. Mr. Heinrich Schellenberg, the Consul General of Switzerland in Shanghai received the delegation and kicked off the discussion on "The economic significance of Sino - Swiss relations", which was moderated by Mr. Pascal Marmier, Executive Director swissnex China. Dr. En Li, Director of the China Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research also shared his insights about the life science industry in China linking it to other global hubs such as Basel.

Welcomed by Mr. Andreas Luchsinger, President SwissCham Shanghai, the panel discussion was focused on the partnership between Basel and Shanghai, covering milestones of more than five years of successful cooperation, and future upcoming highlights. Moreover, the panelists shared their insights about the economic impact of the strong relationship between the two countries. The audience showed great interests towards the discussion and raised many questions.

The event ends up in a cocktail reception. All the guests enjoyed the view of the Bund as well as the gentle breeze of early summer night.
